The church of St. Nicholas of Bari is situated at the highest point of the centre of Valdecañas de Cerrato, occupying a central position within the village’s historic quarter. The church is of Baroque design, built in the 17th century, possibly on the site of an earlier Romanesque building.
The building has a basilica-style layout with three naves, separated by arches supported by pillars.
One of the most striking features is its square-plan tower, constructed from finely carved stone. It is organised into several sections and houses the bell openings at the top. In 2012, the tower was restored and converted into a viewing platform, offering sweeping views of the surrounding area.
Inside, the Baroque high altarpiece is particularly noteworthy, accompanied by other side altarpieces.
A side chapel houses the image of the Virgen del Campo, or Virgin of the Field, the patron saint of the village, which is carried in procession to her chapel every year.
