The church of Saint Martin of Tours stands at the highest point of Valbuena de Pisuerga and is the village’s main church. The present building was constructed in the 17th century on the site of an earlier structure and underwent subsequent alterations, particularly during the 18th century, which gave it the appearance it has today.
It has a rectangular floor plan, with solid stone walls reinforced by buttresses, featuring openings that allow natural light into the interior. The entrance door is situated in the west-facing façade and is topped by a bell gable, a characteristic feature of its external appearance.
The interior is organised into a single nave, covered with groined vaults, a common structural solution in the religious architecture of the period. The austerity of the space is enriched by a collection of artistic works from different periods, reflecting the historical evolution of the building and worship in the village.
Among the most notable pieces is a 14th-century Gothic cross, one of the oldest examples of the church’s heritage. Alongside it are a panel painting and the high altarpiece, which features a sculpture of Saint Martin the Bishop, dating from the 16th century.
